You may
think that architects only provide a drawing service. However,
drawings represent a small percentage of what architects do. We
would say architecture is about physical experiences. It is
phenomenological. Drawings are abstract, and they are only a
representation of an idea. A place you want to go. Our job is to
help you define that idea, and provide guidance through the process.
What we do is to provide to you a road map that instructs how to get
to the end destination: Your new building.
Defining the idea begins with you and
requires that we understand your goals, values, and needs. Good
design derives from this relationship, and in this sense all
architecture starts as a dialogue. It is through this interaction
possibilities are explored and ideas are discovered. This dialogue
is guided by questions designed to establish goals, collect and
analyze facts, test concepts, determine need, and in the end provide
a defined idea for your new building. We do this because we want to
design you a building that connects you with your surroundings, we
want to stir your passion, and create a meaningful experience. By
creating a meaningful experience the dialogue that we begin never
ends. And it begins again each time you interact with your building.
Therefore, we see architecture as being
more than just concrete, wood, glass and steel. It isn’t about
decoration or style. Architecture is about people and our
interaction with the built environment. This interaction creates an
experience that is both personal and communal. It is a shared
experience that is tactile, sensual, and real.
Thinking about architecture in this way
requires one to pay attention to detail; thinking about the feel of
a well crafted door in your hand; the placement of a window, the
feel of stone, a texture under your feet, and the way light is cast
onto a wall. All of these variables are explored through the design
process. During the design process, every decision is examined, and
then re-examined.
However good design is not solely about
beauty, it also incorporates functionality, simplicity, efficiency,
and rigor. It is about creating an end result that provides
meaningful experiences, improves your quality of life, becomes an
asset to the community, and a long term investment for you.
